The goal of the student assistance program is to enhance the resiliency of adolescents whose parents are substance abusers; delay adolescents' initial use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs; and decrease adolescents' use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.

Anyone can refer a student to this program, though most students tend to self-refer. All information shared by students will remain confidential- except, of course, if it involves harm or safety in any way. This program is completely voluntary except if a student is caught with substances on school grounds.  At that point, the student would be referred to the Student Assistance Counselor for an assessment.

Other aspects of this role are to greet new students to the district, support students in healthy decisions, help them remain free of substances, educate them on the effects of substances, and help them find ways to manage without substances.

We also work with a group of students called the "League of Listeners".  This is a group identified by their peers as the kids they trust with their concerns. We run fun initiatives throughout the school year to support the school community.

Students can find the Student Assistance Counselor in room E-10.
