Mock Trial provides students with a unique opportunity to experience firsthand what it is like to prepare and present a legal case before a Rhode Island court. Student teams consisting of lawyers and witnesses prepare to prosecute or defend real cases in competition with other Rhode Island schools. Cases are tried in superior or district courts before a judge and jury. Preparation for the competition consists of legal analysis of the case, familiarization of trial/courtroom procedures and development of testimony. The actual competition employs acquired legal skills, debating and a good degree of acting. The winning team will represent Rhode Island in the national tournament.
